Teaching in the Dooley District
Reece was considered unsuited for military service, so when World War II broke out he was one of the few young men in the area who did not go off to war. He found work as a teacher in the Dooley District of Union County for sixty dollars a month, vital to his family. His siblings were married with their own families, so Reece needed to help his parents as well as sending his sister Jean to Young Harris College. He boarded near the school and spent weekends at home.
